Max Lewis stepped in at a pivotal point in the band. Mark, Bob and Cutty had just formed what would be the band's rhythm section from that point on, but had a void left by other members who were over committed to too many projects to dedicate time to the bands new found momentum. Max, who had performed as a guitarist, bassplayer and beat poet at various shows Bob and Mark had played and had been a long time supporter of their various bands, had just bought a trumpet and was looking for something new. Rev. Bob & the Darkness had just become a serious band and was looking for a new voice, someone with creative talent, a good ear, dedication and just good to work with. Max was all of these things. He quickly learned trumpet, while singing lead as well as backups and learning various percussion and ambient noise makers to fill out the band's sound. He became a defining voice in the band's new direction and sound, learning his instrument in a trial by fire one stage at a time.
Max's influences: Miles Davis, James Brown, Al Green, Morphine, John Coltrane, Talking Heads, The Velvet Underground, The Pixies, Lee Morgan, The Beatles, The Clash, Otis Redding, Charles Mingus, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Sly & The Family Stone, The Ramones, Frank Zappa...
